Myrbetriq (mirabegron) is used to treat overactive bladder symptoms such as frequent urination, waking up during the night to urinate (nocturia), unintentional loss of urine (incontinence), and sudden urges to urinate. Mirabegron is an antispasmodic that prevents bladder spasms by relaxing the bladder muscles. In addition to OAB, Myrbetriq may be used to treat neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) in children. NDO is a bladder dysfunction that may be caused by disease or injury in the nervous system. Myrbetriq is approved by the FDA to treat NDO in children aged 3 years and older.

• Children should take Myrbetriq with food, but adults may take Myrbetriq with or without food
• The mirabegron tablet should not be crushed or chewed
• Take this medication by swallowing with a cup of water
• Observe blood pressure and inform your doctor if symptoms do not improve
• Avoid storing in places with heat or moisture

Myrbetriq may not be safe if you are affected by:

• Severe kidney disease or kidney failure
• Extreme high blood pressure (hypertensive crisis)

Tell your doctor about any condition you have before taking Myrbetriq. Health conditions that may make mirabegron unsafe for you include:

• Liver or kidney disease
• Ureteral obstruction (frequent urination, recurring UTIs, and urine that is bloody or cloudy)
• High blood pressure (hypertension)

Myrbetriq may cause the following side effects:

• Xerostomia (dry mouth)
• Urination problems or constipation
• Fast heartbeats
• Cold symptoms (sinus inflammation, headache, sore throat)
• Increased blood pressure

If you experience severe side effects of Myrbetriq, contact your doctor immediately. Severe side effects may include:

• Pounding in the neck, nausea, dizziness, and other high blood pressure symptoms
• Severe headache, chest pain, or anxiety
• Seizures
• Unresponsiveness or confusion caused by blurred vision

When will Myrbetriq start working?

Myrbetriq (mirabegron) is for treating overactive bladder in the long term. This means that you may not experience the full benefit of this drug right away. Nevertheless, some patients may begin to see improvements to their symptoms within the first four hours. Generally, the full effect of Myrbetriq kicks in after four to eight weeks of treatment.

Can my child take Myrbetriq?
